what suggestions do you have for someone who wants to get into modeling?
1) Be picky about who you work with. Don’t just take off your clothes for any guy with a camera that tells you it would make you a model. It won’t. I care more about quality (and having a solid portfolio) than quantity (and having a bazillion photos varying in calibre).
2) Network. Facebook, Model Mayhem, Flickr, etc. I’ve met some pretty spectacular people on all 3, even though condensed talent is hard to find now on MM. Just send a lot of messages and introductions, even if the photographer isn’t local.
3) Be friendly. Even though this modeling world may seem big, everyone knows each other and its easy to get mixed up in drama. You don’t have to be best friends with everyone, just be polite and it’ll pay off.
“I hate the concept of the clog! It’s fake, it’s ugly, and it’s not even comfortable! And I hate the whole concept of comfort! It’s like when people say, ‘Well, we’re not really in love, but we’re in a comfortable relationship.’ You’re abandoning a lot of ideas when you are too into comfort. ‘Comfy’ - that’s one of the worst words! I just picture a woman feeling bad, with a big bottle of alcohol, really puffy. It’s really depressing, but she likes her life because she has comfortable clogs.”—Christian Louboutin
